Fwd: RE: BREAKING NEWS -- Fwd: Budget Deal ANS Bulletin

there has been an email conversation going on in response to the "Budget Deal ANS Bulletin" we sent out. Just in case you want to see the discussion, here it is so far.  If you want to be in on the rest of the discussion, if there is more, let me know.

PS in the manner of emails, the discussion is upsidedown.  Start at the bottom -- or not....

FDR on health care reform – nothing
Truman on health care reform – nothing
Eisenhower on health care reform – nothing
Kennedy / Johnson on health care reform - Medicare
Nixon on Heath care reform – nothing
Ford on health care reform – nothing
Carter on Health care reform – nothing
Reagan on Health care reform – (Threw Vets into the Street and Denied Aids existed)
Bush 1 on Health care reform – nothing
Clinton on Health care reform – got nowhere at all.
Bush 2 on Health care reform – Partial Privatized Medicare Part D unfunded.
Obama – on health care reform – No existing condition – 20 other positive benefits – first positive move since 1965

Green party pseudo – leftists should come to reality. No reform without a deal with Big Pharma and Big insurance.
Don't like that reality should not have let them get that big years ago.
Go elect a far left congress and you get what you want.  If you can't do that then ask yourself why the American people keep
Electing fascists to congress. Holding Obama to a higher standard of performance than any other president is a form
Of discrimination.

We can start out with your matching my contributions to the Wisconsin effort.  Those could have repercussions.  Mail to friends and get a few bucks from them also.  This is supporting real people doing door to door stuff hour after hour--something not that practical for us because of our solid-blue coloration!

Yes, I saw the provision about this being independent of the Bush tax cuts, and I am aware that in the pinch we are NOW in, this kind of compromise with insane people is necessary.

However, Obama AND the Democratic Party leadership have been failures at taking major tides of public opinion and making something of them--via the Bully Pulpit, and a consistent Democratic/Progressive doctrine, ARTICULATED repeatedly to the voters.  There has been time and opportunity for this, and, sorry, there have been a lot of fightin' Democrats in this country's history who would have at least made the argument.  Right now they seem to be scared out of their pants.

Take the rep in upper New York State who whomped the Republican not so long ago.  For a MOMENT, a little dribble of courage seemed to leak out of that victory.

Last year, one had the impression that Obama had decided to cave on major health reform items before the horses were well started out of the gate.  There was major stuff being written showing what kind of place we are in and why.  He was even mentioning a few ideas from Atul Gawande for a few weeks.  But it took Katherine Sibelius to make the best arguments on TV...Obama had apparently forgotten all about Perot's charts and yet here was a case for those in spades.

Sure, you can stand on the gallows after they've tied the knot and cry at the hangman "Oh, yes, I'll compromise."  It is FAR MORE EFFECTIVE to stay off the platform in the first place, and get the crowd riled up to go after the other guy.

The problem, which you have commented on in the past frequently, is that the liberal/ progressive/ left WILL NOT GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER--they seem to wander around waiting for a crisis to happen.  A tenth of the citizens in the nation can see how the wind is going and where the fresh cow-pies are better than these folks.

Where's Harry Truman when you need him?  You'd think that Boxer and Durbin and about 15 others could get a plan together a year or two before people might wind up on the platform with the hangman.

Have you read Deer Hunting with Jesus?  Rainbow Pie?  Lakoff?  Wilkinson & Pickett?  What articulated lines of argument and frames can be built to fight back and not always be in the reactive position?

Along with that we ought to be looking at every good Democratic shot at a district, nationwide.  I give my little amounts not to the Party, or to Feinstein or Boxer, but to some tough gal going up against a fat Burgermeister in the Podunk district in Ohio.  If the House isn't recaptured in '12, what do you think is going to happen to any tax reform?

Try reading Bageant and write the speech the Democratic candidate in Western Pennsylvania ought to give, triangulating between the values and traditions you read about in Bageant.  Try to find hardcopy and recorded John L. Lewis speeches for the right tone and cadence.  (I think Michigan has the audio ones).

Peter --
Are you seriously saying you don't understand the need for compromise?  You don't understand that our government is run by two houses of congress who have most of the legislative power, and who are currently dominated by right wing crazies? You don't understand that there must be a bill that will pass with a 51% majority in the House and a 61 person majority in the Senate for it to get to Obama's desk?  Obama is trying to come up with something that will pass before the deadline, and the right is blackmailing the country.  If we don't come up with a compromise, there will be dire consequences.  We may not be sure exactly what will happen, but we know that whatever it is, the right wing will do all in their power to make it worse.  And they have most of the power now.  They have most of the money too.  Why do you and the rest of the left keep acting like you think Obama is a dictator who can do anything he wants but just isn't to annoy you?  the President of the United States is not a king and does not have kingly powers -- he doesn't even have any legislative powers, they are all executive powers!   And, on top of that, the judicial powers have run amok too.  And the judiciary promises to get worse when our next president, who may well be a Republican or Teabagger, gets in.

Yea, but as the spunky old lady used to say in the Ad, "Where's The Beef?"  (e.g., income).  IF such a high proportion of the country polled as being in favor of taxing the rich and closing loopholes, it didn't get done because????  I guess Repub. arms are more brittle than long ago and can't be twisted nearly as hard without piling up undue medical bills....

I sure hope he's setting them up for a big fall!!!

Joyce just sent me this breaking news to send on to you all.  This is the latest proposal, it hasn't been accepted yet: it still needs to be voted on, but this is the compromise they may just accept on both sides.

The latest budget Deal and Why Obama Does more than people think he does.

Obama announced a compromise budget deal with GOP lawmakers today Sun -7:00PM PST
The details in a nutshell :

1.       ~ $3 trillion in cuts to year 2021
2.       ~$1 trillion now, no revote on the debt ceiling until after 2012 elections
3.       Not tied to Bush cuts
4.       Committee of six Dems six GOPs recommend remaining cuts to 2021.
5.       If not reach goal, auto cuts across the board.
6.       President has authority to override recommendations (Playing Chess here); he or she will have the power to add or subtract from military, SS, Medicare: This means in the future, there will be less SS or MED cuts if we have a Dem president and congress, lots if Republican Pres and congress -- it's our choice to support liberals and get them in office, or not.  This is where us "having his back" is the most important thing here.

All this subject to change house might not go with it.
