This one doesn't have much new, but it explains the situation succinctly.

Jessa Duggar Had An Abortion

Pro-life hypocrisy

Jessa Duggar, from the Duggar family who used to be on TLC, recently posted an emotional video about having a miscarriage.

Yahoo! News summarizes what happened:

Jessa documented in one scene on camera that she had been concerned early on in the pregnancy because she had been "spotting" blood.

The article goes on to say…

However, upon arriving at her next ultrasound appointment, the doctor broke the terrible news that the baby did not "look good."

Then the article says…

Due to risks of complications with passing the fetus at home, she said she decided to check in to a hospital to perform a dilation and curettage procedure to remove the fetus from her womb.

If you don't know what a dilation and curettage procedure is, it's a type of surgical abortion.

Jessa Duggar was going to have a miscarriage. There was no saving the baby. She wanted to be as safe as possible, so she had an abortion.

This wouldn't be newsworthy. This wouldn't matter because women go through this all the time. But it does matter because her family is 100% against abortions, calling them murders. They have been famous pro-life advocates for years.

It amazes me the number of pro-life people, who will preach their stance and harass others, and then go on to have abortions themselves.

Conservatives seem to think they're always the exception, that their reasons for doing things are better than other people's, so it doesn't count when they do them. They ignore the fact that many other women have miscarriages and need surgical abortions as well.

You may say that this doesn't count as an abortion because she was having a miscarriage. First of all, this isn't true. She'd had spotting, but hadn't actually miscarried yet.

Miscarriages are called spontaneous abortions in the medical world because the two are so closely related. Some people might say that abortions are a choice and miscarriages are not, but that's twisting the truth. Sometimes women make choices that lead their bodies to miscarry and sometimes women don't want abortions, sometimes they want to keep the baby, but things out of their control force them to get an abortion for the good of everyone — like in the case of Jessa Duggar.

Pro-life lawmakers never make exceptions for these things. They ban medications that could give people abortions, even if they have other medical purposes that they are used for as well. They also make getting surgical treatments like this difficult for many people to get, even if they already had a miscarriage.

Abortion procedures and medications are necessary healthcare for women, especially pregnant women who are already experiencing or might experience miscarriages soon. It saves the mother, by clearing out her uterus, and prevents her from dying of infections like sepsis.

Miscarriages are very common. Mayo Clinic says at least one in five pregnancies end in a miscarriage. This isn't a medical condition that can be ignored.

That's why I say that pro-lifers don't actually care about "saving babies." Their beliefs are rooted in misogyny. That's why they've already started arresting certain women because they had a miscarriage.

Pro-life isn't about protecting any life. It's about forcing all women to give birth and then punishing them if they don't do so successfully.
