Here is a short exchange from FaceBook. It has some wisdom in it:
--Kim
Everybody is going to have a hot take on the election and so here is mine. I will skip the obvious analysis around partisanship cycles and the delays in passing the Democratic agenda. Here is one thing that I think is really important. The country and our culture has been and is changing. A lot of people are uncomfortable with change and so advocates for change also need to be really good at managing the change including connecting with people about what isn't changing. Talking about what is NOT changing is one of the most important parts of change management along with building trust and transparency. Yes, your school may teach anti-racism now. But they're still teaching math and science and English. Football games are still played on Fridays and there is a homecoming dance. A lot more in America is staying the same than is changing. This is an extra burden for people who are trying to break free of oppression and literal or metaphorical bondage. However I think figuring out how to manage the change in our country is important to making change endure. The goal isn't to win elections. The goal is to change the country and the world for the better.

- Sara RobinsonThis is a core piece of any futures analysis. There's always a section in the report on constants: the things that don't change, and that will be carried forward into any future scenario. Tom's right: people find this piece very comforting -- especially when they realize that most of the constants are the most important things of all.
